How to Pay in Russia
Navigating the financial landscape in 2025.
The most common question we get is: "Do my cards work?" The short answer is No. Visa, Mastercard, and Amex issued outside Russia do not work here.
Option 1: Cash is King
Bring cash. USD (new "blue" bills only, in perfect condition) and EUR are widely exchanged.
Tip: Do not exchange money at the airport (terrible rates). Exchange a small amount for a taxi (or book a transfer with us) and exchange the rest in the city center.
Option 2: Cryptocurrency (USDT)
This is the savvy traveler's choice. You can easily exchange USDT (Tether) for Ruble cash at many exchange offices in Moscow City.
It's fast, secure, and offers the best exchange rate, often close to the official Central Bank rate.
Option 3: UnionPay
UnionPay cards issued in some countries might work in some terminals, but acceptance is spotty. Do not rely on this as your sole source of funds.
Option 4: Moscow Assist Agent Service
We act as your local wallet.
- You transfer USDT to us or give us Cash.
- We pay for your hotel, restaurant, or online orders using our local accounts.
- We can also issue you a prepaid local card for small expenses during your stay.
